Born in Iran, Hamid Emami came to the United States in 1977 to study at Southwest University in Texas.  He started working on his engineering degree, but after taking an elective course in painting, he realized that art was his passion and soon changed his degree plan to Fine Arts.

For the next 10 years,he focused on painting. While experimenting with other mediums, Amid started making furniture that he would personalize with his unique style. In 1994, he acquired Stonehouse Gallery.  Two years later, he began his unique line of stained glass suncatchers, and expanded into wholesale sales to additional galleries.  Four years thereafter, Hamid closed his retail space to dedicate himself to wholesale customers exclusively.  Since 2000, he has worked from his own studio, now re-named Artesano Gallery,  adjacent to his house where he lives with his wife and two sons.

Hamid's suncatchers use stained glass, glass beads, copper wire, agates, and metal.  He joins the work together using a copper foil technique for making stained glass, where the glass pieces are individually wrapped in copper foil and then soldered to free form wire figures or agates.
